1. Our Core Privacy Commitment

At ButterPDF (accessible from butterpdf.com), our philosophy is simple: the best way to safeguard user documents is never to collect them in the first place. Unlike traditional cloud PDF converters that require uploading sensitive tax forms, contracts, and personal records to remote servers, ButterPDF executes all file operations locally on your computer via client-side WebAssembly, JavaScript, and HTML5 APIs.

2. Document Data & Processing

When you select or drop a file into any tool on ButterPDF:

  • The file is read into your browser's local memory heap (via Web Workers, Canvas, or ArrayBuffer).
  • No bytes of your PDF, images, Word, or Excel files are transmitted over the internet to ButterPDF servers.
  • Processed output files are generated locally and delivered directly to your downloads folder.

3. Account & Payment Information

If you create an optional ButterPDF account or subscribe to ButterPDF Pro or Team:

  • We collect your account name and email address for authentication (via Supabase).
  • Paid subscriptions are processed by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record. ButterPDF never stores raw card numbers or CVC codes.
  • You can manage or cancel a paid subscription through the Lemon Squeezy customer portal once billing is enabled.

4. Local Storage & Third-Party Assets

ButterPDF uses your browser’s local storage for non-document preferences (theme, session tokens, tool presets). No file contents are stored in cookies. Some tools may load supporting assets in the browser (for example OCR language data via Tesseract.js, or web fonts). Those requests do not include your PDF bytes.

5. GDPR & CCPA

Document processing stays in your browser, which minimizes document transmission risk under GDPR and CCPA. ButterPDF is not a HIPAA-covered entity and does not claim HIPAA compliance for healthcare workflows. To delete your account profile, contact privacy@butterpdf.com.
